It's obvious that Plasma is slowly being phased out. More and more companies are getting out of the plasma business. I was shocked to see Pioneer get out. LCD's are beating plasmas in sales, revenue, and relevance.

Since I have always remembered, Sony has always been one of the Best TV's to Own. And now they are the #1 Best (And most expensive).

So I read today Pioneer anounced it will stop production of all plasmas. Right after producing one of the best plasmas on the planet. I for one still do not like LCD or DLP. Now once plasma dies there will be no reason for manufacturers to improve on the technology, to make the picture better.
Too many people accept LCD's and DLP's medioctrity already.

I have my Wii hooked up to a Pioneer 1140-HD. When I go into my Wii setting using the regular component cables that came with my Wii. It doesn't give me the option to switch to the EDTV or HDTV 480p and when I hook up the HD component cables I don't get a picture. HELP!!!
make sure you have your component cables going into all the same input in the back of your tv. make sure your component cables all work. hook it up with another device to test it. if it works, then hook it up with your wii. do you hear any sound with the way you have it hooked up now? if you hear sound, but you get no picture then you're red/blue/green wires are not in the same input as your audio wires. i had to take a look at the back of my tv and wii to make sure i was answering your question correctly.

I have a new HDTV. Will a surround sound system without HDMI cables produce High-Def sound? I am thinking of getting this sytem:
http://www.jr.com/pioneer/pe/PIO_HTP2920/
Are you thinking more of the surround sound? because 5.1 will produce true surround and if you don't have an HDMI plug at the back which is likely on an audio-only system, you can get 5.1 true surround with a digital audio or optical cable.

I want to replace my 10 year old tube with a new flat, high definition TV, preferably a plasma!
The vendor has shown me the Pioneer Kuro 42"!
It looks really nice, but I'm not sure wether it's a "true" HDTV or not because the resolution is only 1024x768?

I just got a new Sony LCD (XBR4) with PS3 and and HD Cable box. I have an old Pioneer VSX21 Receiver, which supports 5.1. I am trying to get the best sound quality and get the best picture at the same time, so I am currently runing HDMI between PS3 directly into HDTV, and HDMI from the cable box into HDTV as well. I am not uitlizing my receiver at all. What is the best way to hook up my receiver to preserve the best picture quality and get the sound (i also have very nice speakers). I assume I need to use fiber optics audio cable? or should I use toslink ones? and what is the wiring from. Thanks
Thanks - if i want to keep my 5.1 Receiver, what is the best wiring combination (i.e. where do i hook up Fiber Optic and where do I put HDMI)
HDMI output from PS3 and cable box to TV input for video, optical output from PS3 and cable box to receiver input for audio.

I am ready to buy my first HDTV. After much deliberation and asking and research, I realized something that fit my budget ~2000 and my preferred size (>50) was the Sony KDF-55E2000.
I went to Video Only to buy that today and that dude asked me to check out the Toshiba plasma TV. Obviously the plasma TV looks cool compared to the Sony but i am not sure to buy it since I cannot find any official ratings at cnet & whenever I look at the top plasma TVs, I see Panasonic or Pioneer in the top of the list.

Realizing broadcast HDTV is only 720p, will I see a difference in viewing 1080p DVD's (Bluray or HD)? I lean toward the 720p Pioneer, but I am concerned about resolution of DVD's.
A 1080p television shows superior picture quality when watching High Definition dvd's... But thats only if you use the HDMI cables... When it comes to Pioneer vs. Panasonic I'd go for the pioneer only because it has more inputs for a true High Definition picture...

I own a Pioneer HDTV ready rear projection television set. It claims 480p and 1080i. I purchased a PS2 (not PS3) with Sony Component cables and attached the cables to the televisions component in. I personally see no difference between component and the original composite cables provided with the games console.

What does it mean when a HDTV (Pioneer 110FD) has the ability to acept true 1080P 24fps signals.
I thought all 1080P TV's were just that, they accept 1080P.
I see where some models even though they are 1080P, they cannot accept 1080P.
1080p/24 is NOT a required interface format for (for example) HDMI 1.1. Just because a set has a native display format of 1080p doesn't mean that /any/ of it's inputs actuall accept 1080p/24 (more likely they accept the required 1080i/60 format and upconvert it).

On my birthday I am getting a 19 Inch 16:9 720p LCD TV (i forgot the brand). I have a really nice DVD player and I have a PS2, but will they look good on an (19") HDTV? I plan to use Component cables to get the most of the picture as opposed to composite. Will this make it look really good? My DVD player is Progressive Scan compatible. I also have surround sound so Im hoping the TV will make my bedroom theater system all the better.

I am currently in the market for an HDTV, and I am torn between the Panasonic 800u and the Pioneer Kuro 5020FD.
When I went to the TV shop, I saw that the 720p Panasonics are pretty bright. Are the 1080p Panasonics like that? If so, do the Kuro's match their brightness?
While the Kuro will probably match the Panasonic picture, it will not match the price, the reliability, or the after purchase service. Dollar for dollar, Panasonic is the best large screen HDTV being sold. In a 50", the 1080p is worth the extra price, IF you will be watching a lot of BRD movies. Otherwise, the extra money over the 720p/1080i becomes very questionable. Check out the Consumer Reports 3/08 HDTV article!

Is there something I could buy to install in my tv to make the picture better? I have a 51" Pioneer Elite
Rear Projection TV's use a bulb to create the light inside of them. They need to be replaced every once in a while. This is probably your problem. Check Pioneer's website or your TV's manual for more info.

You don't say, but if the Tv is a rear projection type it could be that the lamp is almost shot (They wear out and get dull or die entirely). IF that's the case a new lamp should do wonders.

I'm looking forward to getting a new Plasma HDTV for Christmas!
I have about $3000 to invest and a 42" Full HD TV would be the perfect match.
