Ok, I've been at this for three days. I'm a PC tech, so I've tried all the basics. My laptop has VGA and S-Video out. I'm not happy with the S-video quality, and my tv only has HDMI (not DVI) and component for Hi-Def. I bought a VGA to Component (RGB) cable. I combed through the web trying to get some info on this. The native resolution for my tv us 1366x768. Of course this resolution is not one of the selections for my Intel 945GM adapter. I know power strip is not compatible with this intel card, and I also tried to hack the .inf file with the help a brilliant post I found on the web, and still nothing. When I connect my laptop to the tv, the picture is very noisy, then after a while, it's just black. HELP!!!! Just tell me if this is possible or not. I'm driving myself nuts over this trying to make this work when it may not even be possible. Just give it to me straight, I need to get some sleep... lol thanks.
Component Video is Y-Pr-Pb encoded video which is different than non-encoded RGB and RGB/HV. The Device to which the "VGA" connector is connected, needs to support Component video (Y-Pr-Pb) for this type of cable to work. This is common for projectors. Some other displays also support Y-Pr-Pb through the HD15 (VGA) connector. Check your Plasma, Projector or HDTV manual, otherwise your picture will be extremely ugly and possibly won't have sync! In this case you need a "transcoder".

Here are some other issues I have noticed that started at the same time the sound went out. I can no longer receive Analog Television broadcast only HD. My external video inputs, occasionally drop, i.e. dvd player and XBOX. What happens is the screen goes black on these input channels without any evident cause HD TV channels still work. They return just as sporadically. One other really odd thing is that the audio for HD television broadcasts still comes through the headphone output, albeit quite faintly, but not for external video devices. I have spoken with Philips Customer Support and they were convinced that it was a software issue, but I have upgraded to the most current version to no avail. I do not have cable and receive my HD signals via antenna. I don't want to call a service person if I don't have to, and from what I can determine with Philips products it may do no good any way.
I am on the market to purchase an LCD and did my research. It is unbelievable how many complaints are up on Phillips LCD TV's. I was actually looking to get a Philip's LCD but wow I am glad I made my research. Good luck !

I THINK THE INNER POWER-SUPPLY WACKED OUT! - JUST A MONTH AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT TOO! Why give up so easy? I'd call Philips and complain. With the set being that close to warr. expiration, the Philips corp will probably at least cover the cost of parts for the repair via a one time extended coverage. Call this number and speak to customer rep. 1-800-255-5122 The shop I work at does Philips factory warr. and I have repaired many past warr. on a one time concession. Worth a try?!

Hi I replace my old SDTV to 38'' Philips HDTV with 768P resolution. I also bought a Madcats HD AV cable for my Wii in able to have 480P resolution. When I play my Wii games on my HDTV, the graphics looks bad. What mean bad, I mean no good. It looks more bad when I play Gamecubes games on my HDTV? I set my Wii console to 480P & what in my doing wrong? Thank you!

the salespeople say they are junk. they want me to buy an LG which a nice TV also but the price is about $ 500 more. I dont see that big of a difference.

OH ! maybe because of " profit ". as Philips make good TV for the pass 40 year..from 14 inc B/W to LCD . FRI. Philips and LG LCD TV are use the same LCD panel. as Philips-LG JV LCD panel in Korea, trust by you own eye ! if side by side to compare by same image, will be not difference , why paid 500 more ! Some Philips tv is from Korea, if this model from Korea, is total design by Philips but assembly by LG productions line.
